LakeWire Privacy Policy

Thank you for joining the LakeWire community! We established this Privacy Policy to help you understand what types of User information we collect and share.

  1. Information we collect about you

    We collect information about you in two ways:

    1. When you give it to us.

      When you Sign Up for LakeWire, and when you fill out your profile, we collect certain information. All of this information is public, meaning it can be viewed by other people, except for:

      • Your Password

        Your password is private. No person has access to your password, not even LakeWire employees because it is encrypted before it is stored in the LakeWire database. If you forget your password, you will be sent an automated email with link that enables you to set a new password.

        You are responsible for keeping your password secure, and for protecting the integrity of your account. As such, you are not allowed to share your password with anyone else. For more information about your responsibility read the LakeWire Terms of Use.

      • Your Email Address

        LakeWire does not make your email address available to other Users, advertisers, or other third-party companies. It is private - unless you decide to share it.

    2. When you use the LakeWire Service

      In today's world, whenever you use a website, mobile application, or other type of Internet service, certain data is automatically collected and recorded. LakeWire also collects and records information when you use our service, such as:

      • Usage Data

        When you use the LakeWire service, information about the pages you visited, the links you clicked, and how much time you spent using the Service is collected. Additional information that may be collected includes your Internet Protocol address, what type of browser you were using, cookie data, and how long you used the Service.

      • Device Information

        In addition to Usage Data, we may collect and record information about the device or devices you use to access the LakeWire service. This includes information about the manufacturer, unique device identifiers, what operating system it uses, etc. The type of device information we collect varies based on the manufacturer and type of device used.

      To learn more about what information your browser or device makes available to LakeWire and other Internet companies, please reference the policies of your device manufacturer or software provider.

  2. How do we use information we collect about you?

    We use the information we collect to make our service better, to develop new features, and to protect LakeWire and our community. For example, we may log how many people use each type of browser, which can help us understand how to allocate our time and resources testing our service on each of the browsers. We may also log how often particular links are clicked to determine which particular types and forms of content are of most interest to our Users. This helps us understand User priorities, and is used to help prioritize new features as well as optimize the manner in which we deliver content.

    We also use information we collect such as your email address to send important notifications to you regarding your account. These may include:

    • Account verification requests
    • Instructions on how to reset your password
    • Password change notifications
    • Communications regarding problems with your account
    • Communications based on preferences you have set such as new feature announcements, news and updates from LakeWire, etc.
    • LakeWire responses to feedback you have submitted, follow up on phone conversations, etc.

    The information we collect may be personal information, meaning it can be used on its own to identify you as a unique person. Or we may collect non-personal information, meaning it cannot be used to identify you as a specific or unique person. We use both types of information individually, and in combination.

  3. What options do you have regarding your personal information?

    If you are a registered LakeWire User, we provide you with tools in your account settings to access and modify your personal information. You may choose not to share any personal information at all, with the exception of your Username, name, email address, and password which are required to activate your account and share information with the LakeWire community.

  4. How do we share the information we collect?

    LakeWire is a completely transparent network, in that messages and all content associated with messages are public. What you say on LakeWire can be seen instantly by the LakeWire community, guest Users, and by other websites that link to LakeWire. More specifically, this includes the message text, links, image attachments, and water temperature, clarity, and fishing reports.

    Your Profile Page is public, and displays every message you have ever sent. So remember, you are what you post on LakeWire! Users frequently access other User Profile Pages to learn more about a User, his or her background, fishing preferences, to analyze historical messages in hopes of learning how to become a better angler, and for various other reasons.

    We do not share your private personal information, specifically your email address and encrypted password, except in the limited circumstances described below:

    • Service Providers: We partner with various companies to provide services that are critical to operating LakeWire Service. Examples include, but are not limited to, hosting providers and cloud security providers.

    • Compliance and Safety: We will disclose personal information about one or more Users to law or compliance organizations if we believe it is necessary to:

      • Comply with a law, regulation or legal request
      • Protect the safety, rights, or property of the a person, the public, or LakeWire
      • Detect, prevent, or otherwise address security, fraud, or technical issues
    • Change of Control Events: If LakeWire is acquired, merges with another company, acquires another company, or is involved in a bankruptcy, reorganization or asset sale, your information may be sold or transferred as part of that transaction. The commitments in this Privacy Policy will apply to your personal information when transferred to the new entity.

  5. Policy about Children's Information

    As defined in our Terms of Use, Children under 13 are not allowed to use the LakeWire service. If you believe your child has registered for the LakeWire service, please notify us and will delete the account and remove all personal information.

  6. Changes to this policy

    As LakeWire grows and evolves, it may become necessary to make changes to this policy. The most current version of the Privacy Policy will always be available on the LakeWire service at: http://www.lakewire.com/privacy/. You are responsible for keeping up with changes to this policy, and your continued use of the LakeWire service after we make policy changes is an affirmation that you agree to be bound by the revised policy and changes. LakeWire may choose to notify you when policy changes occur, but you agree that we are in no way obligated to do so.
